New audio interview from Telluride Insider

The story of Melissa Etheridge’s storied career – she’s won two Grammys and an Oscar – can be summed up, Hollywood-style, in a digestible sound byte: Cold home. Hot performer.

The singer-songwriter, whose signature sound combines confessional lyrics within a pop-based folk-rock musical frame delivered in raspy vocals, came to be known for putting out long, high energy sets. Catch one of those memorable musical moments at the 20th annual Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, where Etheridge’s performance is the Festival’s grand finale, Sunday night starting at 6:15 p.m. Get ticket Info.

Melissa making long-awaited Tucson encore

By: Cathalena Burch @ Arizona Daily Star. Photo: Jerry Watson

Talk about your long-awaited encores — it has taken Melissa Etheridge's 21 years to return to a Tucson stage. Her last Tucson concert was in 1992 — three years after she had initially introduced herself with her rough-hewn, chicks-with-guitars-style driving rock.

She was supposed to return in 2004, but her tour that year was canceled when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

On Saturday, she finally returns to open UApresents’ 2013-14 season.

“It’s way too long,” Etheridge said during a recent phone interview from her home in California, promising that her show Saturday will be worth the long wait. “If you’re ready, I’m ready. We can do it.”

Still rockin’ after all these years

Not many singers have the distinction of winning both an Oscar and two Grammy awards and have starred in one of Broadway’s most acclaimed rock musicals. Not to mention also being a cancer survivor, mother of four children and a political activist; but that’s exactly what life is like if you’re Melissa Etheridge.

Etheridge does all of this and still has the time to tour the country. She’ll be stopping here Sept. 8 at Humphrey’s by the Bay and while there are still are tickets available, they are close to being sold out.

She is a tireless force to be reckoned with. Etheridge loves talking about being a mother, about politics, about her kids, her music and how much music means to her and her life.

How are things going for you?
Ahh, they are going really well. I have been really enjoying myself. Enjoying the process of the box set, actually. I have learned a lot about myself working on that. I have played some shows in between and that’s fun too.

By Tony Sauro, Recordnet.com
Melissa Etheridge is having a blast. So far, it's mostly been from the past. She's enthused about what that means for the present and future, too.

"It's going great," said the folk-rock singer-songwriter with the big, bluesy voice. "I can't believe it. I've found so much stuff it's unbelievable. I've been working on it for six months.
