A capacity crowd including city officials -- and Grammy Award winner/former LB resident Melissa Etheridge -- attended the Feb. 23 gala opening of the Historical Society of Long Beach's LGBT History Project.

"I loved waking up here on a Sunday morning and going down to Fourth Street," said the two-time Grammy winner and Oscar winner who played several times a week at the lesbian bar Que Sera. "These were the people who believed in me and gave me a job. You supported me, you helped me grow as a musician, you kept coming to hear me play. We were a community," she added. "Thank you for making me who I am."

The exhibit includes a display of the Gold LP that Ms. Etheridge donated to Que Sera on Anaheim St., a well known Long Beach lesbian entertainment bar where, along with the Executive Suite on Pacific Coast Highway, Ms. Etheridge performed locally.
